A Letter from Rawda

I usually don’t like to get into political issues on line. But, I was asked to share this email I’d recieved from a friend living in Egypt with her family. She is 16. Her family (Mother, Father, younger sister, older brother) moved back to Egypt right after the revolution. She writes:

Jul 27
Dear friends,
I am typing to you at about 8 in the morning, CAI time
just yesterday I was at the qua’id Ibrahim mosque rallies against that sisi. All was well until about 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Tear gas canisters came raining down on us, the peaceful protesters, and armed thugs high on drugs came to hit is out and disperse us. And the thugs included the riot police, who were supposed to be serving the people, NOT KILLING THEM. The police were protecting the thugs. As always. There was a thug that was caught, the people on the mosque’s side beat him up. If he was caught and then taken to the police, the police, of course, would not have a trial and simply let him go on with his sins. They would leave him to kill people because he is their henchman. The men on our side had to protect the women, children, and elderly, so they took broken pieces of sidewalk and threw them at the police and thugs. But they were just rocks, nothing compared to the guns, clubs, tear gas canisters, and rubber bullets that they were rampaging about with. There was 5 deaths and 30 or so injured, according to the news. I myself saw many men that were injured. Please be aware that these are people, like you and me, not numbers. Please dont see them as material. These are souls. By sunset, the fighting in he area we ran to to escape the first wave of choking tear gas, the sidewalk by the sea, had the fighting pushed quite far away. We prayed the sunset prayer and broke our fasts. It was a good rest after all that sudden rush of trauma. The sheikh on the mic told the people to go reclaim the area that the thugs were in before, and some people went, including my parents and I, but too many were too reluctant to go there and went slowly. Bam. The thugs and police made a comeback, and even more gas canisters than before were fired at us. My dad tole me and my mom to go escape the tear gas, he went to follow a large group of men. By that time, a gas canister had landed four to six meters away from where we were standing. I gripped mama’s arm and tried to get away quick. Though we wore surgical masks wet with vinegar (vinegar neutralizes the tear gas before it enters your respiratory system) mama and I were overpowered by it. It was worse than being choked. I felt all my muscles try to pull me to the ground, but I had to get my mama away from the tear gas because she has glaucoma. I could not see well, it was all a waving blur, and i tripped on some wood. The only noise mama and i were able to make were shallow gasps and sqeals. I tripped again, and some men help us up. Thank god we were able to make it to the street by the lightrail tracks, and BREAAAATH. Thank god I did not faint. Our apartment would be hard to get to, it was far away and sisi’s supporters would sniff us out because their supportive protest was only one stop away. Me and mama headed out to my cousin’s because they lived within walking distance. My dad called to know where we were, and he told us that he and MANY others were trapped in the Mosque by thugs, but later he managed to get free and came here, to my cousin’s, where I type to you now. I’m sending this message to show the world what is going on in egypt. Through my eyes. Not the liar media that dominates much of people’s minds.
Still, currently, people are stuck in the qua’id Ibrahim mousque of alexandria. People are STILL being killed in rabah al aduayah square by sisi’s goons.PLEASE PRAY FOR MY BROTHER, ZAKARIA, AS HE IS THERE IN THE SQARE HELPING BUILD A WALL OF DEFENSE WITH SANDBAGS. THESE PEOPLE ARE BEING SPAYED WITH LIVE BULLETS AND MORE AND MORE OF THEM ARE BEING KILLED–PLEASE PRAY THAT GOD PROTECTS THEM. PLEASE PRAY AGAINST SISI. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE FAMILIES THAT HAD THEIR LOVED ONES KILLED.PLEASE PRAY AGAINST THE MILLITARY COUP. PLEASE SHARE THIS MESSAGE WITH THOSE YOU THINK ARE INTERESTED— ALL YOUR PRAYERS ARE MUCH NEEDED. GO OUT THERE AND TELL THE WORLD! THE WORLD BEING AWARE IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE NEW REVOLUTION.

It does not matter if you don’t understand what is being said. It just matters that you see what is really going on. I reccomend that you watch at midnight or 4-7 am your time to see what goes on in the daylight.
And in case you dont really know why we are fighting so hard, its really for the freedom to practice or not to practice our religion. Morsy will give us the freedom to do that, so he is easily replacable. Sisi is against those who freely practice our religion, and is using the CORRUPT ARMY TO DESTROY THEM. AND THAT THEM INCLUDES I, MY PARENTS, MY BROTHER, MY LITTLE SISTERS AND THOSE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN RABA AL ADUAYA SQUARE AND THE OTHER PROTESTERS ALL OVER EGYPT.
حسبنا الله و نعم الوكيل
